A letter from Fr. Conor Kelly, Chairperson of the Synod Diocesan Task Force
Pope Francis has asked that the whole Church enter into a process in which we can ask the Lord, through the Holy Spirit, to call the Church to follow together on the road that He lays out for us. We ask the Lord to speak through each one of us, based on our experience of journeying together as His Church, so that we may discern where the Lord is leading us today, and into the future.
The people of our parish and others, have been invited to come to the Park Hotel, Dungarvan on Tuesday 3rd May for a “Faith Conversation” which will begin at 7.30pm. This is an open invitation to anyone who wishes to come and share their experience of living the faith as part of our Church and our Parish.
For some time now, we have been praying at Mass for the success of this work, and we continue to ask the Holy Spirit to inspire and lead us. We look forward to sharing with those who come regularly to Mass and also those who come only seldom. The Spirit can speak through us all. All will be listened to with respect, but there will be no debate on the night, only a prayerful listening for the voice of the Spirit, speaking through the members of His Body, the Church.
All the sharing will be collated and sent on to Rome, with a copy published in the Diocese as soon as possible.
May God Bless you all,
Fr Conor Kelly, PP.
Questions for Reflection Prior to Local Meeting
- Each of us has been baptised into the Family of God that is the Church. As a baptised person, what is your experience of journeying together in the Church?
- In your own experience, do you feel part of a Faith Community? How?
- What do you see as the issues needing attention now in your Parish Community?
- Where do you think the Holy Spirit might be leading you to participate more fully in the Church?
- What steps might the Holy Spirit be inviting the Church to take now?
Prayer for the Synod.
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen
