Announcements at this Weekend’s Masses, October 19/20, 2024
Today we celebrate The Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B. Welcome and welcome to everyone who joins us by radio on 98.5FM.
October is the Month of the Rosary. Rosary beads and leaflets are available, free of charge, at Our Lady’s Shrine here in St. Mary’s. It is hoped that schools will pray a decade of the rosary each day, in that way to complete a set of mysteries each week.
The Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help continues each until Monday, 28th October at 7.30pm. No 9.30am Mass on Mondays during the novena.
The October 2024 Parish Newsletter is available in the church and porches. There is also a separate leaflet available with the 10 Good Reasons to Go to Mass. The remaining four 7 – 10 are: 7. We need to stand up for what we believe; 8. We need to acknowledge that we make mistakes; 9. We need ritual in our lives; 10. We need to experience something bigger than ourselves. It would be good to share a copy of this leaflet with others.

This Sunday, 20th October is Mission Sunday. This year’s theme is “Go and Invite Everyone to the Banquet,” reflecting the inclusive and urgent call to bring God’s love to everyone. A second collection for the support of the missions will be taken up at all Masses this weekend. For those using the weekly collection envelopes please use the special Mission Sunday Collection envelope. The money from this collection which is taken up in every parish in the world benefits 1,150 territories where the Gospel has not yet been received, has been only recently embraced, or is courageously upheld in the face of persecution.
These announcements may be read on the parish website: www.dungarvanparish.ie
Parish notes are included each week in the two local newspapers.

Newspaper Notes, 21st October 2024
10 Good Reasons to Go to Mass
Numbers 1 – 7 were given last week. This week numbers 8 – 10 are included.
- We need to acknowledge that we make mistakes. At every Mass, we have the opportunity to review the past week. We admit that we have sinned in thought, in word, in deed, in what we have done and what we have failed to do.
- We need ritual in our lives. Mass is a ritual, which means that through the repetition of prayers, movements, and the changing of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ, we are formed, disciplined and consoled.
- We need to experience something bigger than ourselves. When we go to the Mass, we share in the death and resurrection of Jesus. When we offer our ordinary lives to God through Jesus, we enter into God’s great plan for the world. We are strengthened by the Eucharist and sent out into the world to bring the Gospel message to all people.
Change of Attitude
What if you changed your attitude about going to Mass? What if you began to think of Mass as the time in the day when you can connect with God and with other people in a special way? What if you made Mass a priority? The effects of these kinds of positive attitudes may surprise you.

Prayers
Pope Francis’ Prayer to Our Lady
O Mary,
You shine continuously on our journey
as a sign of salvation and hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who, at the foot of the cross,
were united with Jesus’ suffering,
and persevered in your faith.
“Protectress of the Roman people”,
you know our needs,
and we know that you will provide,
so that, as at Cana in Galilee,
joy and celebration may return
after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform ourselves to the will of the Father
and to do what Jesus tells us.
For he took upon himself our suffering,
and burdened himself with our sorrows
to bring us, through the cross,
to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God;
Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always
from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
