Visits to a Church and Cemetery

Visits to a church and cemetery to pray for the dead are encouraged during this month. We are members of the Communion of Saints which is made up of the saints in heaven, the souls in purgatory and ourselves here on earth. We can help our loved ones who have died by our prayers, and they can help us. We are separated from them physically, but we are united with them in God’s love.

On Visiting a Cemetery

On all who are buried in this cemetery: Lord, have mercy.

On those who have no living family to pray for them: Lord, have mercy.

On those buried here within the past year: Lord, have mercy.

For Those Who Mourn.

Lord, you wept at the death of Lazarus your friend, comfort us in our sorrow at the death of our loved one(s). Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Holy Souls Novena. These nine Masses for the souls of the faithful departed will be celebrated here in St. Mary’s Parish Church on the last nine days of the month, 22nd – 30th November.

Prayers

Pope Francis’ Prayer to Our Lady
O Mary,
You shine continuously on our journey
as a sign of salvation and hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who, at the foot of the cross,
were united with Jesus’ suffering,
and persevered in your faith.
“Protectress of the Roman people”,
you know our needs,
and we know that you will provide,
so that, as at Cana in Galilee,
joy and celebration may return
after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform ourselves to the will of the Father
and to do what Jesus tells us.
For he took upon himself our suffering,
and burdened himself with our sorrows
to bring us, through the cross,
to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God;
Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always
from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
