Newspaper Notes 13/01/2025

Jubilee of Hope 2025

‘If you are worried about where the world going and if you are seeking meaning then you are just like St. Peter who once asked Jesus, “To whom shall we go?” But Peter answers his own question saying, “Lord, you have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” Our Lord Jesus Christ is why we have hope. Christian hope is not mere optimism or feeling good about the future. It is a virtue built on the solid foundation of God’s strength, on God’s mercy, faithfulness and love. The Jubilee Year of Hope is a wonderful opportunity to concentrate on the hope which Christ holds out to all, to celebrate our faith and be encouraged to pass it on to others. We are commanded by Jesus Himself to go and make disciples.’ (From Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan’s Pastoral Letter for the Holy Year, The Jubilee of Hope 2025).

Copies of Bishop Cullinan’s Pastoral Letter are available in the church and porches.

Prayers

Pope Francis’ Prayer to Our Lady
O Mary,
You shine continuously on our journey
as a sign of salvation and hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who, at the foot of the cross,
were united with Jesus’ suffering,
and persevered in your faith.
“Protectress of the Roman people”,
you know our needs,
and we know that you will provide,
so that, as at Cana in Galilee,
joy and celebration may return
after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform ourselves to the will of the Father
and to do what Jesus tells us.
For he took upon himself our suffering,
and burdened himself with our sorrows
to bring us, through the cross,
to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God;
Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always
from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
