October is the Month of the Rosary. Recently in Lourdes, Pope Leo XIV encouraged all the faithful and all Christian communities everywhere to pray the Rosary throughout the month of October, with the particular intention that wars may cease and that peace may be established among peoples in conflict. The October Newsletter has much information about the rosary in this month of the rosary.
We pray for Pope Leo XIV, for his full recovery after his recent surgery.
October is also the Month of Mission. World Mission Sunday is celebrated this weekend, 17/18 October with the theme ‘One in Christ, United in Mission’. This year is the 100th anniversary of the first World Mission Sunday in 1926. A second collection for the support of the missions is taken up at all Masses this weekend. There is also a white envelope in your box of envelopes which can be used for this collection.
The Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help concludes this Monday, Oct. 19th at 7.30pm. Please make a special effort to attend this last Novena Mass. No morning Mass on Monday.
(12 noon Mass Only) You are reminded that the main churchyard gates and the CBS Primary School gates are locked immediately after this Mass.

Newspaper Notes 19/10/2026
Fr. Frank Lloyd, RIP
Fr. Frank was born in Clonmel and attended the CBS schools there. He worked for a few years with the Irish Sporting Press before entering St. John’s College, Waterford. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1985. He ministered in Touraneena and The Nire. Cappoquin, St. Paul’s Waterford City, Carrick on Suir and Parish Priest of Newcastle and Fourmilewater. He retired in 2008, due to ill-health. He lived in one of the priests’ houses at Mitchell St., Dungarvan where he died unexpectedly on the evening of October 7th, 2026, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. His Funeral Liturgy took place in his native parish of SS Peter and Paul, Clonmel on Thursday, October 15th at 1.00pm. He was buried in the family plot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Clonmel. We give thanks for his life and ministry as a priest and for the sharing of his many gifts and talents with others. May he rest in peace. Amen.

The Rosary (Part 1)
Many of the appearances of Mary, especially at Lourdes and Fatima, have been associated with the praying of the Rosary. Numerous popes and saints have urged the faithful to pray the Rosary. The popularity of the Rosary has been attributed to St. Dominic and the Dominican Order. It grew out of people’s desire to have 150 prayers to match the 150 psalms chanted by the monks in monasteries. In 1569, St Pius V officially recommended the praying ‘of 150 angelic salutations… with the Lord’s prayer at each decade… while meditating on the mysteries which recall the entire life of the Lord Jesus Christ’. The Rosary is a scripture-based prayer. It began with the Apostles’ Creed, which is it itself a summary of the great mysteries of Catholic faith, based on scripture, from creation through redemption and up to the Resurrection of the body and everlasting life.
